4.          A NEW CALENDAR


Emperor Akbar, radiant and playful, announces a bold revision to the calendar. The court listens, bathed in golden light.


One day when Akbar was in a jubilant mood, he said to Birbal, "We have revised the calendar from today, so that the new calendar month will be double the present one."

Birbal responds with joy, matching wit to wonder.

Birbal responds with swift delight, his words dancing in harmony with Akbar’s mood. The court leans in, curious and amused.


"It is an outstanding plan, Your Majesty!”  Replied Birbal swiftly, “It will please me more than anything else.”

Birbal gesturing toward the sky, imagining a month of moonlit nights. A dreamlike overlay of a full moon rising over a palace garden, with soft silver light bathing the scene. Akbar looks surprised and contemplative.

Thirty nights of moonlight—Birbal’s vision glows beyond reason.


"How?" inquired the Emperor, who had anticipated that Birbal would not be able to respond to his new disclosure.

 “Why”, returned Birbal on the spur of the moment, “under the new arrangement the bright half of the month will have duration of thirty days. So, we shall enjoy moonlit nights continuously for a double period.

 

Akbar sitting back in awe, eyes wide, mouth slightly open—speechless. Birbal stands calmly, a gentle smile on his face. The court is quiet, with a sense of admiration and wonder.
The court falls quiet. Birbal’s answer lingers in golden stillness.

This ready-witted answer rendered the Emperor speechless.
